I haven’t been writing for months, my last article was about the research program extension back in July.
Lots of things happened since then and I am now back in Italy, graduated and ready for a fresh start. Continue reading “Closing, renewing, restarting”
I’m writing to announce a change in my program road-map, well actually the COLABS program itself is going to finish as expected on the 7th of August. Continue reading “COLABS update: project extended”
This may (or may not) be the last update about this program. Continue reading “COLABS: experimental phase closing”
This is just a brief update.
As you know from the last update we had some interesting results, but now we have to link all those aspects (microstructure, magnetic susceptibility and so on) to find a pattern between the starting point, which are the powders, and the final properties of the sintered material. Continue reading “COLABS Update”
Last update was two weeks ago already, and now I finally have some news…and exciting ones.
Basically in these two weeks I’ve been rushing to get everything done: I’ve been preparing new samples of even more concentrated alloys, I’ve been doing magnetic analysis, electron scanning and scattering, X-ray analysis and diffraction…
Lots of stuff, and the results are intriguing 😉 Continue reading “COLABS update”
Just watch it, no comments needed…I’m moved
Continue reading “How close are we to the future? Almost there…”
This article is just directly reported from Science Insider, available here
No other comment are needed, a part that as European I’m glad bud not surprised of how this sad story ended, I mean, StopVivisection had no real evidence to prove their point, just propaganda good for signature harvesting among the people…
Sadly most of the signers were from my country, Italy, and that shows how more STEM knowledge is needed.

I’ve been absent for quite long, I’ve been both busy and lazy, but here we have a new update.
Last time I talked about the promising results of the XRD analysis of my samples. After that almost two weeks have passed and I figured out what the unexpected peaks are (metastable intermetallics), measured the elastic modulus and the magnetic susceptibility of the samples.
As I wrote in my first article about my research the aim of the project is to obtain a novel alloy with a very low magnetic susceptibility and good mechanical properties to be used as an alternative to titanium in orthopedics. So the magnetic susceptibility is one of the most important results of my experiment. Continue reading “COLABS update: last rush before the deadline”
Now it’s high time for an update on my research work!
The last time I wrote I was still sintering my samples using Spark Plasma Sintering, I finished that part of the work as predicted before the beginning of May and after the Golden Week I started with the preparation of the specimens for the analysis.
It took a long time because both polishing and cutting are very slow, in particular the cutting part is very time demanding. I had to cut through every sample 8 times to produce the bars for mechanical tests and the specimens for XRD, TEM, EBSD, and every cut took 45 minutes with the fine cutter.
But finally last week I finished and now I’m performing the analysis! Continue reading “COLABS update”
Well I have to write something about that, I mean the 30th Tohoku University International Festival (even the name is complicated).
Every year Tohoku University’s group TUFSA organizes an international festival in where people from all around the world cook traditional food and even perform on stage. For several years the Italian food stall was missing, and it was not acceptable.
So a group of Italians and me decide to solve the problem and set up the Italian booth this year, and in my opinion it’s been a success.
