COLABS update

COLABS update

[EN-IT]

Last update was two weeks ago already, and now I finally have some news…and exciting ones.

Basically in these two weeks I’ve been rushing to get everything done: I’ve been preparing new samples of even more concentrated alloys, I’ve been doing magnetic analysis, electron scanning and scattering, X-ray analysis and diffraction…
Lots of stuff, and the results are intriguing 😉 Continue reading “COLABS update”

European Union rejects plea to end animal research

[EN]
This article is just directly reported from Science Insider, available here
No other comment are needed, a part that as European I’m glad bud not surprised of how this sad story ended, I mean, StopVivisection had no real evidence to prove their point, just propaganda good for signature harvesting among the people…
Sadly most of the signers were from my country, Italy, and that shows how more STEM knowledge is needed.

How to domesticate a star

How to domesticate a star

[EN-IT]

The technology to control nuclear fusion is the next milestone of nuclear engineering, and it can lead to a number of useful applications.
First of all it will be possible to produce a massive quantity of electric energy while the world is getting hungrier and hungrier of electricity. Moreover since the feedstock for nuclear fusion is hydrogen and the products are low density elements like helium, it will be possible to produce power at relatively low footprint; that’s because hydrogen can be extracted from water or air while nowadays nuclear plants use rare and radioactive elements that need to be imported mainly from Africa.

Because of those (and other) reason the scientific community has long been trying to tackle the fusion problem: how to control the damn plasma. Continue reading “How to domesticate a star”

A new promising Ebola virus vaccine cadidate works on nonhuman primates

Lettera della Senatrice Elena Cattaneo

Lettera della Senatrice Elena Cattaneo

[IT]

Pictures from another world

[EN-IT]

I hope that all of you already know about the ambitious Rosetta mission, if not I point you to the website. To make it quick let’s say that the European Space Agency sent a probe deep in the solar system to chase a comet, they succeed in doing this and they even dropped a lander on the surface of the comet nucleus in November 2014.
